The best pajamas for women are made with breathable fabrics and relaxed fits, with designs so gorgeous that you might wonder if you can get away with wearing them out. Too often, we settle for grubby T-shirts or soccer shorts, thinking it’s just for sleep, but that’s a mistake. After all, we spend a third of our lives in bed. We shouldn’t be uncomfortable.

Technically, I’ve been testing women’s pajamas my entire life, but my official WIRED-style, meticulous testing began a year ago. I lounged in, slept in, and washed more than 100 matching sets from brands you can buy online to find the best pajamas for women. For you, I’ve ranked them from my ultimate top pick—Lake Pajamas—to dependable favorites that always make it into the weekly rotation. PJs are an investment in your well-being, and the brands I’ve highlighted will make you feel like your best self, even while you’re snoozing.

    Pima Long-Long Set in Hydrangea

Lake Pajamas’ DreamModal collection feels like butter on your skin. Even after repeated washing, the relaxed crewneck top and drawstring pants still look polished, with a little pop from the contrasting ribbon tie at the waist. Made from 95 percent modal, this set is soft and stretchy, but if modal isn’t for you, Lake Pajamas’ signature Pima cotton pajama collection is just as comfortable. The company also sells flowy nightgowns across both collections if you’re looking for the most unrestrictive fit.

If you’ve ever wished your sleepwear had the soul of a Nancy Meyers film, the Pima sets will make you look like a coastal grandmother on an artist retreat. Think: nautical stripes and botanical prints. The three-quarter sleeve scoop-neck top and pant set is made from 100 percent Peruvian Pima cotton, which is soft, airy, and cool on the skin. It’s ideal for hot sleepers or those prone to night sweats. Lake’s fabric does shrink a bit after the first wash (mostly in length), so if you’re between sizes, take the brand’s advice and size up. I went up to a large and still found myself wishing I’d gone bigger for a roomier fit. The pajama pants come in three lengths—cropped (26″), regular (29″), and tall (32″).

They’re not cheap, but they’re the kind of classic pajamas you’ll wear year-round.

    Arid Blayne

If you struggle with night sweats, you know how hard it is to find truly cooling sleepwear. Arid Blayne nails it. Its fabric wicks moisture and helps lower skin temperature all night. Even in December in Thailand, I woke up dry every morning. Beyond the cooling technology, thoughtful details include elasticized ankle loops that keep leg pants in place while you toss and turn in bed, double-layered tops for discreet nip coverage, and hidden drawstrings. Pieces are sold separately, so you can mix and match scoop-neck tanks, cropped tees, henley sleep shirts, pajama shorts, and pants.
