Sex toy maker Tenga notified customers of a data breach on Friday, according to an email obtained by TechCrunch. In the message, the Japanese company said that “an unauthorized party gained access to the professional email account of one of our employees,” which gave the hacker access to the contents of the employee’s inbox. This access potentially allowed the hacker to see and steal customer names, email addresses, and historical email correspondence, “which may include order details or customer service inquiries.” The hacker also sent spam emails to the hacked employee’s contacts, including customers, according to the email sent to…
A group of 23 Democratic US senators sent a letter Friday to the top federal regulator overseeing prediction markets, urging the agency to avoid weighing in on pending court cases over the legality of offerings on the platforms tied to “sports, war, and other prohibited events.”Prediction markets, which sell contracts tied to the outcome of real-world developments, have exploded in popularity over the past year, attracting an increasingly mainstream fanbase eager to wager on everything from geopolitical conflicts to fashion choices to the Super Bowl. As they expanded, the platforms have become a magnet for ethical and legal controversies. On…
Now that we’ve (mostly) moved on from the Super Bowl, love is in the air among brands. Some, like JCPenney and Yahoo, are celebrating Valentine’s Day by playfully acknowledging the messiness of modern love. Others, like DoorDash, capture the universal panic of gifting gone wrong. And our Most Effective Ad of the Week, in partnership with EDO, shows how AI can help NFL coaches evaluate players.Keep reading for this week’s notable ads.McDonald’s | “Horizontal Breakfast” by Wieden+Kennedy New YorkThe day after Super Bowl Sunday, when many Americans were tired or hungover from the celebration, McDonald’s turned its ads sideways to speak to…
Starting Friday, OpenAI will cease providing access to five legacy ChatGPT models, including the popular but controversial GPT-4o model. The 4o model has been at the center of a number of lawsuits concerning user self-harm, delusional behavior, and AI psychosis. It remains OpenAI’s highest scoring model for sycophancy. In addition to GPT-4o, the GPT-5, GPT-4.1, GPT-4.1 mini, and OpenAI o4-mini models have also been deprecated. OpenAI intended to retire GPT-4o in August, when it unveiled the GPT-5 model. But at the time, there was enough backlash for OpenAI to keep the legacy model available for paid subscribers, who could manually…
Ilia Malinin was born to skate. The child of two Olympic skaters—Tatiana Malinina and Roman Skorniakov, who both competed for Uzbekistan—he first hit the ice at six years old. In the years since, he’s skyrocketed to fame in the skating world, dubbing himself the “Quad God” for his ability to do multiple quadruple jumps with ease in a single program. This week, Malinin lead the US figure skating squad to gold in the team event at the 2026 Winter Olympics. During that competition, his performance was notable for two reasons. One, he ended his short program with an astounding backflip. Two,…
A possible kidnapping or abduction story like the one involving Nancy Guthrie, the mother of NBC News’ Savannah Guthrie, is always difficult to cover. But for TV journalists reporting on this story, it hits closer to home, as the victim is a colleague, albeit a prominent figure beloved by many.As Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance approaches the two-week mark, the circumstances that led to the kidnapping, the gradual revelation of credible leads, the ransom notes sent to various media outlets, and the Guthrie family using social media to plead for their mother’s return add to the complexity of this story, which has…
Anthropic’s Super Bowl ads — which feature darkly comedic scenarios of people seeking advice from chatbots, only to be steered to “cougar” dating sites and height-boosting insoles — have been paying off. In the days since, Anthropic’s AI chatbot Claude has climbed from No. 41 on the U.S. App Store to become a top 10 app. As of Friday, Claude sits at No. 7 — its highest rank to date — suggesting its “no ads” pitch resonates strongly with users. According to new data from market intelligence provider Appfigures, Claude’s U.S. downloads across both iOS and Android totaled an estimated…
This will not be a banner year for the real estate app Zillow. “We describe the home market as bouncing along the bottom,” CEO Jeremy Wacksman said in our conversation this week. Last year was dismal for the real estate market, and he expects things to improve only marginally in 2026. (If January’s historic drop in home sales is indicative, that even is overoptimistic.) “The way to think about it is that there were 4.1 million existing homes sold last year—a normal market is 5.5 to 6 million,” Wacksman says. He hastens to add that Zillow itself is doing better…

Dutch phone company Odido has confirmed a data breach affected millions of its customers. The company said in a statement Thursday that unidentified hackers gained access to its customer contact system and covertly downloaded reams of customer information. A spokesperson for Odido told local Dutch media that the breach affects more than 6.2 million customers, or about a third of the country’s population. The stolen data includes customer names, phone numbers, postal and email addresses, dates of birth, bank account numbers (IBAN), and details of customers’ government-issued IDs, such as passport or driver’s license numbers and dates of validity. The…
The Delight hearing aids come preconfigured with four additional environmental modes in addition to the default setting, with room for four extra modes you can create yourself. Unfortunately, none of these made any real difference for my overall hearing clarity, no matter what kind of setting I found myself in. Streaming media comes across as fair but largely devoid of bass and unusable in loud environments. All told, the Delight system provided fairly minimal support in even a best-case scenario (watching TV in an otherwise quiet room), and they weren’t effective at all in noisy environments, where amplified ambient sound drowned…
While toxic boy mom culture is a hot topic right now (thanks to Brooklyn Beckham’s 821-word takedown of his famous parents), Old Spice delivered a satirical masterclass in how not to mother long before Posh Spice took to the dancefloor. Its 2014 ad, “Mom Song,” saw helicopter mothers literally clinging to their sons as they pursued romantic relationships, because Old Spice had sprayed their boys into men. Twelve years later, Procter & Gamble’s men’s grooming brand is feeling more wholesome as it follows up “Mom Song” with an R&B anthem that offers a healthier perspective on mother-son relationships, as it promotes its…
As the top AI labs like Google, Anthropic, and OpenAI chase enterprise adoption, Canadian AI startup Cohere has been quietly cleaning up. The startup told investors in a memo that it surpassed its $200 million annual recurring revenue target in 2025, hitting $240 million with quarter-over-quarter growth of more than 50% throughout the year, per CNBC. Cohere was founded in 2019 and has the backing of enterprise tech investors like Nvidia, AMD, and Salesforce. The startup’s core tech is its Command family of generative AI models, which Cohere says are efficient enough to be deployed on limited GPUs — an…
Other Good 3-in-1 Travel ChargersPhotograph: Simon HillKuxiu Qi2 25W Travel Charging Station for $79: This charger folds down to an impressively small package, and it feels pretty solid with a silicone-covered metal construction. It can hit 25 watts for supported Qi2 phones, comes in a few different finishes, and ships with a 45-watt power adapter and USB-C cable in the box. Unfortunately, I don’t like the way it looks, and I found it awkward to get all three devices charging at once. It’s actually too compact, so it feels crowded.UAG 3-in-1 Travel and Desktop Charger Photograph: Simon HillUAG 3-in-1 Travel…

Coupang’s massive data breach in South Korea has now become a geopolitical flashpoint as a growing number of the company’s U.S. investors take legal action against the South Korean government. What began as a regulatory investigation into data security failures has expanded into a broader dispute over alleged unfair treatment of the U.S.-headquartered company. While Coupang — which operates in South Korea, Taiwan, and Japan — is often referred to as the “Amazon of South Korea,” its worldwide headquarters are actually in Seattle, Washington. The company’s investors are now seeking international arbitration under the U.S.-Korea Free Trade Agreement (FTA). On…
