The primary isn’t until early June, but the CA-17 race between five-term incumbent Ro Khanna and tech founder Ethan Agarwal is already getting nasty. Agarwal entered the race in March, backed by a roster of prominent tech billionaires largely in response to Khanna’s public support for a proposed California ballot measure that would impose a one-time 5% tax on residents worth more than $1 billion. Agarwal, for his part, has been going after Khanna by primarily citing his stock trades while in office. Now newsrooms covering the race have been receiving anonymous packages of digital court documents detailing Agarwal’s legal…

The deal still needs shareholder approval and is expected to close in the second quarter, with proceeds distributed to stockholders sometime in the third quarter. Shares jumped 36% on the news…

Bluesky has launched an AI assistant called Attie that allows users to design their own social media algorithms and create custom feeds within the company’s AT Protocol ecosystem. And let’s just say the response has been heated. Attie debuted this weekend at the ATmosphere conference, which Bluesky sponsors. But Bluesky’s userbase did not embrace the new product. Instead, about 125,000 users have already blocked Attie’s Bluesky account, making it the second most blocked account on the network, according to open source data. Attie only has 1,500 followers, meaning that about 83 times more users have blocked the account than followed…

Meta has begun testing a premium subscription on Instagram in a few countries, the company confirmed to TechCrunch on Monday. The subscription, called Instagram Plus, gives subscribers access to exclusive features. The move comes two months after Meta told TechCrunch that it was planning to test new subscriptions on Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp. Among the premium features on Instagram is the ability to view a Story — a photo or video post that disappears after 24 hours — without the poster knowing you viewed it. Subscribers can also see how many people have rewatched their own Stories, Meta told TechCrunch…

Would you trade your manager for a chatbot? A growing number of Americans are saying yes. According to a Quinnipiac University poll published Monday, 15% of Americans say they’d be willing to have a job where their direct supervisor was an AI program that assigned tasks and set schedules. Quinnipiac surveyed 1,397 adults in the United States and conducted the poll — which included questions about AI adoption, trust, and job fears — between March 19 and 23, 2026. Yet another startup aiming to help enterprises build, secure and orchestrate AI agents has raised a honking big seed round. Sycamore on Monday announced a $65 million seed led by Coatue and Lightspeed, with a long list of angels including former OpenAI chief scientist Bob McGrew, Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan, Databricks CEO Ali Ghodsi, and others.  A few things turned investors’ heads and drew them to participate in such a big round out of the gate. First, unlike many startups in this space, Sycamore isn’t led by a 19-year-old Y Combinator grad — its founder brings decades of experience: Sri Viswanath, a former Coatue investor. He left the full-time VC role in the fall to launch Sycamore, where he is CEO.  “I’ve spent over 20…

Americans are increasingly turning to artificial intelligence to help with things like research, writing, school or work projects, and analyzing data — but they’re not exactly happy about it. Even as AI use and adoption rises, Americans continue to lack trust in the new tool, according to a Quinnipiac University poll published Monday. Of the nearly 1,400 Americans surveyed, more than three-quarters said they don’t trust AI — 76% say they trust it rarely or only sometimes, compared to just 21% who trust it most or almost all of the time.  That comes even as an increasing number of Americans…

So here’s what we’re actually looking for and how to make sure your application reflects it. The deadline to be considered is May 27. And if you’re not up to speed on this year’s Startup Battlefield details, it’s once again a premiere part of…
