On this episode of Adspeak by ADWEEK, host Kim Einan sits down with Jim Cowsert to unpack how AI is transforming advertising without sacrificing creativity, trust, or brand identity. Jim explains how brands can use AI to strengthen insights, improve consistency, and personalize campaigns at scale while still preserving the emotional nuance that only humans can provide. Together, they explore the dangers of “apathy in using AI,” why generic AI-driven work weakens differentiation, and how brands can build stronger creative briefs by feeding proprietary brand DNA into AI systems. The conversation also covers bias mitigation, human review loops, audience testing, and why skeptical,…

The McDonald’s team had a different idea for its FIFA World Cup 2026 campaign, but it ended up on the cutting room floor. The original concept centered around the “field of play,” according to global chief marketing officer Morgan Flatley.“We got pretty far with it, and then we finally killed it,” Flatley told ADWEEK. “It just kept sticking with me that it felt like any brand could do that, and we should be doing something that’s uniquely McDonald’s.”Instead, the fast-food chain landed on a more distinct idea: while numerous brands go to the World Cup, why not bring the tournament to…

In 1985, Microsoft shipped Goal Seek in Excel. A few years later came Solver and Monte Carlo simulations. Instead of guessing outcomes, you could define success and let the software search for the variables that produced it. I remember using these tools during my years in banking, often grinding the CPU to a halt. Solver, VBA, lookups and pivot tables gave ordinary users enormous leverage. At one point I automated almost my entire predecessor’s role into a handful of workflows that took 25 minutes a day to run. The more I use Claude Autoresearch, Codex’s /goal functionality and similar optimisation…

Fusion startup Xcimer Energy on Wednesday flipped the switch on its Phoenix laser system, which the company says is the largest privately owned example in the world. Xcimer’s approach to fusion power is modeled after the National Ignition Facility (NIF), which proved in December 2022 that a controlled fusion reaction could release more power than required to ignite it. The NIF trained 192 laser beams on a fuel target smaller than a pencil eraser. The energy from the lasers hit the gold target. As the lasers obliterate the gold target, their energy is converted into X-rays, which are focused on…

Password manager maker Dashlane says hackers have obtained at least a dozen encrypted vaults used for storing customer passwords during a weekend cyberattack. The company said on its website that hackers brute-forced the company’s two-factor authentication system, granting the hackers access to about 20 customer accounts. By defeating its two-factor mechanism, the hackers were able to download a copy of certain customers’ encrypted vaults, which store their passwords and other sensitive credentials. Dashlane said on its incident page that there was no evidence of compromise of its own systems, but it has not yet said how the hackers were able…

Amazon was sued on Monday over alleged privacy violations from its Ring doorbell cameras. The class action lawsuit, filed in Seattle by Virginia resident Charles Sigwalt, claims that Ring’s Familiar Faces feature stores images of passersby without consent.
