Meanwhile…Life will have to go on after The Late Show with Stephen Colbert and its home for the past 11 years, The Ed Sullivan Theater, were sucked into an interdimensional wormhole after the show’s final episode on Thursday.Despite the sci-fi type conclusion, Colbert’s final episode was more of a real-world celebratory affair featuring celebrity cameos, musical numbers, and a sing-along featuring Late Show staff members.Music icon Paul McCartney was Colbert’s surprise final guest, during which he reminisced about The Beatles’ first time in the U.S., specifically at the Ed Sullivan Theater in 1964. McCartney recounted that the group used to…
At Google’s I/O developer conference this week, we had the opportunity for a brief hands-on with its upcoming AI-powered glasses — not the audio-only glasses that Google said will begin shipping this fall but rather the glasses that offer a combined audio and visual experience. First announced at last year’s event, these Android XR glasses offer an in-lens display that puts helpful information in front of you, overlaid on top of the real world. This includes widgets that could display things like the weather, walking directions, Uber pickup details, live translation, and more — even widgets you designed yourself using…
To get internet access in your home, you need both a modem and a router. They aren’t interchangeable, and they serve two very different functions. If you think of your home as an island, the modem is the port where the big cargo ships come in from the world wide web, and the router is the warehouse sending out delivery trucks to the devices dotted around your island. But here’s where the confusion can set in: Sometimes they are combined into a single device. So, if you’re setting up a new network or planning to upgrade your home internet connection, knowing…
Phone provider Trump Mobile has confirmed that it was exposing customers’ names, email addresses, mailing addresses, cell numbers, and order identifiers to the open internet. Chris Walker, a spokesperson for the Trump-branded phone maker, told TechCrunch that the company is investigating the exposure and has not found evidence that content or financial information spilled online. The company said there was no breach of Trump Mobile’s network, systems, or infrastructure. The spokesperson said that the exposure was linked to a third-party platform provider that supports “certain Trump Mobile operations.” Walker did not name the provider. The company’s admission came after reports…
In terms of inputs, it takes almost every control method from the Steam Deck, short of the touchscreen, and crams it into an 11 x 16 x 6 cm design. Valve tries to have it both ways when it comes to the more familiar controls, using Xbox’s ABXY face buttons and broad design aesthetic but PlayStation’s symmetrical thumbstick layout, plus the twin shoulder buttons and pair of analog triggers. Players accustomed to either will soon adapt to this hybrid approach. The Steam Controller goes beyond either of its console cousins, though, with a whole fleet of inputs that neither Sony nor…
SpaceX may have stolen the show with its IPO prospectus, but Elon Musk’s aerospace-AI-data center company wasn’t the only notable business to file to go public this week. On Thursday, Finnish smart ring company Oura said that it had confidentially submitted a Form S-1 to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission in preparation for an IPO. Founded in 2015, Oura has emerged as one of the most popular wearable health trackers, setting itself apart from Fitbit, Garmin and Apple’s watch-like products with a sleek, unobtrusive ring. The Oura ring tracks activity, sleep, and daily “readiness,” among other health metrics, and…
Comparing Our Favorite Vacuum CleanersHonorable MentionsBissell PowerClean FurFinder for $200: This was our previous top pick for the best cordless vacuum, and it’s still a great affordable stick vacuum. But the regular Bissell PowerClean ($150) is a touch cheaper since it doesn’t come with the FurFinder upholstery attachment, while Dyson and Ryobi’s vacuums have more powerful suction for pet hair.Black and Decker Dustbuster Flex for $110: This is another cool handheld vacuum that’s great for cars or even indoor areas like staircases. It has a 4-foot hose, longer than most compact vacuums, and a handy little charging mount that the…
I’m torn on the price of the Movestyle, though. I love how affordable it is at $580, putting it within a more mainstream budget than I would have assumed. On the other hand, this is a very unique product, and I think higher-end specs might have been a better choice. This is a VA panel rather than IPS, and that means the color accuracy and saturation are OK, but not the best. Although it’s only rated for up to 250 nits of brightness, it topped out at 310 nits when measured against my colorimeter. But it’s not terribly bright, which…
When the founders of a mental health app for men called Mental saw that one feature — AI interactive audio — was resonating wildly with their users, they knew they were on to something. And so the idea for a new, and hopefully safer, kind of AI therapy app was born, which they called The Path, co-founder and CEO Anson Whitmer tells TechCrunch. Then famed author and motivational speaker Tony Robbins grew so enamored with this startup that he scooched in as a co-founder. The Path has now raised $14.3 million in seed funding led by Prime Movers Lab (where Robbins…
Humans are animals that measure things. Call us Homo mensura. We have a compulsion to quantify, and for millennia we’ve been inventing new ways to go about it. For anything you can think of, there’s a device to measure it—from sphygmomanometers to spectrophotofluorometers. And of course nowhere is this more true than in science. Well, science and baseball.Physicists build models to explain how the world works. It might be an equation, like the ideal gas law: PV = nRT. This tells us, for example, that if you double the temperature (T) of a gas, all else equal, its gas pressure…
What will it take to launch the first must-have AI consumer product? Maybe $700 million. At least according to Hark, an AI lab building models and hardware for an AI personal assistant, which said on Thursday that it had raised that much in a Series A round that values it at $6 billion post-money. The mega-round was led by Parkway Venture Capital and included Nvidia, Align Ventures, AMD Ventures, ARK Invest, Brookfield, Greycroft, Intel Capital, Prime Movers Lab, Qualcomm Ventures, Salesforce Ventures, and Tamarack Global. (Phew!) Perhaps what’s most notable about the fundraise is how little Hark has revealed about…
While a 5-gram reduction in weight may sound minor, the improvements were immediately noticeable, leading to quick, snappy movements and flicks required in first-person shooters. In precision-focused games like Counter-Strike 2, the weight felt perfectly balanced to throw around without being so light that I lost control, and in fast-paced titles like Helldivers 2, the added agility gave me the ability to contend with multiple enemies at once (or, more accurately, easily turn around and flee from them).Instead of the singular RGB indicator of the V3’s hyperpolling dongle, the desktop bio-dome has three programmable RGB indicators to display one of…

If you are a top fan of an artist, Spotify will give you a chance to book a ticket to their next show. This is the audio platform’s new bid to keep its users engaged and stream more to become eligible to be a top fan. Spotify didn’t give an exact criterion to be a “real fan,” but said it will use signals like streams, shares, and other activity. However, it mentioned that the platform will monitor activity to ensure that users don’t game these stats using bots or AI agents. “There will be significantly more superfans than there are…
The Gulf’s AI ambitions depend on something surprisingly fragile: a handful of undersea cables running through some of the world’s most volatile waterways.Countries like Saudi Arabia and the UAE have spent billions building AI infrastructure, attracting hyperscalers and positioning themselves as future exporters of compute capacity. But as the region shifts from oil wealth to AI-driven economies, the infrastructure carrying that data is increasingly becoming a strategic vulnerability.Undersea cables have long powered the global internet. Now, they are becoming geopolitical assets.Following the escalation between the US, Israel, and Iran earlier this year, experts warned that regional conflict could threaten critical…
One of the common features for companies to build in the age of AI is to connect services like email, calendar, documents, and notes to create a daily brief in text or audio format. Spotify is also giving in to this temptation and releasing a new stand-alone desktop app called Studio by Spotify Labs for this purpose. Today, the company released the ability for users to explore a topic by creating a podcast about it. Spotify is also adding personal context to this podcast-generation tool. And, because in 2026 companies can’t refrain from adding agents to their apps, the new…
