Samsung has released the March 2022 Android security patch to a couple more Galaxy A series smartphones — Galaxy A70 and Galaxy A72. The former is receiving last month’s security update in the US while the latter picking it up in Russia. The rollout for both phones should reach other countries within a few days.

The latest update for the Galaxy A70 is currently rolling out to the carrier-locked variants (model number (SM-A705U) in the US. According to SamMobile, who first reported this rollout, the update comes with the firmware version A705USQS2DVC1. Unlocked variants of the phone should also soon join the March SMR (security maintenance release) party. The March security update for the Galaxy A72, meanwhile, is rolling out with the firmware version A725FXXU4BVC1 in Russia.

Samsung last month confirmed that the March SMR contains fixes for over 50 vulnerabilities. The majority of those were found in Google’s version of Android. But there are quite a few SVE (Samsung Vulnerabilities and Exposures) items as well. SVEs are security flaws that only affect Samsung’s devices. Several of those fixes were labeled critical by the Korean brand. These vulnerabilities could cause extensive damage to users if exploited in the wild,

All of those fixes are now rolling out to the Galaxy A70 and Galaxy A72. If you are using either of these phones, you should be receiving the new update within a few days if you haven’t already. As always, you will receive a notification once the OTA (over the air) rollout reaches your phone. You can also manually check for updates though. Simply open the Settings app, navigate to the Software Update menu, and tap on Download and install. If an update is available, you will be prompted to download it. If there’s no update available, check back again later.

Galaxy A72 is eligible for the One UI 4.1 update

Samsung launched the Galaxy A72 in early 2021. The device arrived running Android 11 from day one. It received the Android 12-based One UI 4.0 update earlier this year. The mid-range smartphone is also eligible for the Korean brand’s One UI 4.1 update. The latest version of its custom Android software brings a bunch of new features and improvements to some existing features. The Galaxy A72 should pick up this update later this month.

The Galaxy A70, on the other hand, may have already received its last major Android update. Launched with Android 9 Pie in early 2019, the device has received updates to Android 10 and Android 11.
