Top of the Ticker: ABC News emerged as the top recipient of the most awards at the 47th News & Documentary Emmy Awards, taking home eight trophies. The 2026 ceremony, held over two nights last week, saw ABC News win awards in key news categories, including Outstanding Live News Program for ABC World News Tonight with David Muir and Outstanding Live Breaking News Coverage for its ABC News Special Report on the U.S. Army’s grand military parade.
Other Emmy news winners were CNN with four, Al Jazeera with three, and two for CBS News, NBC News, BBC News, and Bloomberg. Telemundo and Univision each had one. In the documentary category held on Thursday night, PBS took the most awards with four. CNN had two, and Scripps News received one.
Audio transition: NewsNation continues to expand beyond a linear news network, adding new podcast and digital programming offerings. The network announced the addition of several original podcasts, including NewsNation’s Unreported with Meagan Medick, Prove it with Batya!, and The Scoop with Paula Froelich. It is also debuting a new show on YouTube, Hot Take with Jesse Weber, available every Tuesday and Thursday. As a result of its expansion into podcasts and digital programming, NewsNation unveiled a newly constructed, state-of-the-art studio at its Chicago headquarters, complementing its existing operations in New York and Washington, D.C.
D.C. Bound: One of CNBC’s signature programs is heading to the nation’s capital. Squawk Box, which airs weekdays from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. ET, will be live on Tuesday and Wednesday from Washington, D.C., where co-anchors Joe Kernen, Becky Quick, and Andrew Ross Sorkin will lead the special broadcasts featuring interviews with top policymakers, business leaders, and newsmakers.
Legal Wrangle: CNN has sued Perplexity, the AI company, for unlawful copying and distribution of the network’s copyrighted content. “CNN’s lawsuit stands for the proposition that Perplexity, a company valued at tens of billions of dollars, should not be able to steal from entities that create the original content Perplexity exploits,” a spokesperson for the network said. Perplexity responded to CNN’s lawsuit with chief communications officer Jesse Dwyer saying, “You can’t copyright facts.”
Birthday celebration: Meanwhile, CNN is gearing up for America’s 250th birthday by reuniting its New Year’s Eve Live duo of Anderson Cooper and Andy Cohen. The pair will count down to the nation’s Independence Day from New York City’s Times Square with Independence Eve Live with Anderson & Andy: Celebrating 250, airing on July 3 from 8 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. ET. In addition, the network said that on Saturday, July 4th, its anchors and correspondents will spread out across the country to cover America’s 250th celebrations.
