A few months after Disney restructured its marketing, layoffs are coming to the company.
According to reports, Disney is planning on cutting as many as 1,000 jobs in the coming weeks, with a significant portion of those cuts hitting the marketing department as a result of consolidation. The Wall Street Journal first reported the news.
Disney declined to comment.
These are the first major cuts under new CEO Josh D’Amaro, who officially took over from Bob Iger in March.
In January, Disney announced it was restructuring its marketing divisions under Asad Ayaz, the company’s first chief marketing and brand officer. The restructure was aimed at aligning the company’s marketing teams more closely across the business.
At the time of the news, a source familiar with the matter noted that, given the scale of the endeavor, there wasn’t an imminent announcement on what the final structure would look like.
The layoffs are just the latest across the media industry, with other companies, including Sony and CBS, also announcing cuts.
