Top of the Ticker: CBS News is once again in the midst of layoffs, as editor-in-chief Bari Weiss and president Tom Cibrowski look to restructure the news outlet.

The executives reportedly announced the cuts on Friday morning, affecting around 6% of staff.

In addition, CBS News Radio is being shuttered, effective May 22. The division provided programming to around 700 affiliated stations across the country, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

“It’s no secret that the news business is changing radically, and that we need to change along with it,” Weiss and Cibrowski wrote in a note to staff.

This marks the second round of layoffs in six months at CBS News.

The first round of cuts affected several major names at the outlet, including CBS Saturday Morning’s longtime co-anchors Michelle Miller and Dana Jacobson, as well as the show’s executive producer, Brian Applegate.

New partnership: NBC News is trying something different with its tech coverage, announcing a partnership with renowned independent tech journalist Joanna Stern. She will be their chief tech analyst & contributing correspondent, working across all NBC News platforms and contributing to its expanding subscription product.

Stern, who previously worked for The Wall Street Journal, is also launching her own independent digital tech-focused platform, New Things with Joanna Stern, which will feature newsletters, video, and live events.

Worthy contribution: Sticking with NBC News, its former chairman, Andy Lack, recently donated $7 million to nonprofit journalism efforts in Louisiana and Mississippi. The investment will go to Deep South Today, a nonprofit journalism outlet that supports four independent, nonprofit, nonpartisan newsrooms in the region. Lack co-founded and is the executive chair of Deep South Today, which now has five dozen journalists working for the independent organizations it represents.
