Layoffs Hit CBS News Again, CBS News Radio Shuttered

Lawsuit challenge: CNN earned a courtroom victory as a full slate of judges in the Federal Appeals Court in Atlanta declined to consider President Donald Trump’s case against the network for its repeated use of the phrase “Big Lie” pertaining to the 2020 election, which was won by former President Joe Biden.

Meanwhile, the BBC is seeking to get the lawsuit brought on by President Trump dismissed in a Florida court. The British-based outlet argues that the $10 billion suit brought by the president is meritless because the Trump documentary it aired caused no damage to his reputation, as it aired a week before the U.S. election. In addition, the documentary aired only in the U.K., meaning U.S. viewers were never exposed to its content, and it is also out of the court’s jurisdiction. The BBC says that proceeding with the case would have a “chilling effect” on how it would cover the president.

Expanded role: ABC News head Debra OConnell is taking on a prominent position within Disney Entertainment. She was named chairman of Disney Entertainment Television by Dana Walden, the new president and chief creative officer of The Walt Disney Company. OConnell, who will continue to oversee ABC News and ABC-owned television stations, will also be responsible for ABC Entertainment, Disney Branded Television, Hulu Originals, National Geographic Content, and creative for 20th Television and 20th Television Animation. OConnell was named president, news groups and networks, in February 2024.

International recognition: NBC News’ Richard Engel is set to receive the David Kaplan Award from the Overseas Press Club of America. Engel will be honored for his report, Covering the Build-up, Conflict and Aftermath from Inside Israel & Iran. He is set to receive his award at the Overseas Press Club of America’s Annual Awards Dinner on April 20 in New York City.

Top debut: Fox News’ Shannon Bream is celebrating the news that her fourth book from Fox News Books, “Nothing is Impossible with God,” finished at the top of the New York Times bestseller list, under the Advice, How-to & Misc. category.
