Apple’s Worldwide Developer Conference on Monday started off with an apology of sorts. Instead of jumping right into the headline news about a revamped AI-powered Siri, Apple’s senior vice president of Software Engineering, Craig Federighi spent the first stretch of the keynote on a list of repairs. For the past two years, Apple has been racing to catch up in AI while frustrations with its core software quietly added up: a design overhaul users hated, a search function that barely worked, a file-sharing feature that routinely failed, and a Health app that ignored half its user base. Apple didn’t say…
Apple’s drastic overhaul of Siri, announced Monday at WWDC 2026, attempts to make the smartphone voice assistant more helpful, attuned to iPhone users’ personal data, and action-oriented. A major aspect of this Siri revamp is a partnership with Google Gemini to help power the AI tool’s underlying model as part of Apple Intelligence. After extended delays, Apple is moving forward with a dynamic repositioning of Siri that changes how the voice assistant appears on iPhones and gives people a new way to access it: a stand-alone Siri app.The all-new dedicated Siri app.Courtesy of AppleThis revamp is expected to roll out to…
Microsoft has cut off access to dozens of its open-source projects hosted on GitHub as it investigates how hackers apparently breached the projects and injected password-stealing malware into the code. Many of the affected projects relate to Microsoft’s cloud service Azure and other tools used by developers to code with AI development apps, such as Claude Code, Gemini’s command line interface, and VS Code. According to security firm Cloudsmith and community-driven malware analysis site OpenSourceMalware, who were some of the first to flag the hack, the malware allowed the hackers to steal the user’s passwords and other sensitive credentials when…
Apple held its annual Worldwide Developer Conference today. WWDC is the event in which the company uses its keynote address to announce lots of changes coming to its software platforms on iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, and Mac.Apple has been chasing the artificial intelligence boom for the past few years, though many of its promised AI features across its platforms have been delayed or have not quite panned out into a fully-fledged suite. To rectify that, Apple entered into a partnership with Google to use its Gemini AI as a backbone to power Apple Intelligence. After years of wondering how that…
Apple’s WWDC 2026 event kicked off this morning at 10 a.m. PT at Apple Park, starting a week full of expected announcements around Siri, iOS 27, Apple Intelligence and more, along with developer events and demos. This year’s event is particularly notable for a couple things. It marks CEO Tim Cook’s last with the company, after announcing he’s handing things off to Senior Vice President of Hardware Engineering John Ternus September 1. And it’s expected to play host to Apple’s attempt to give Siri and its AI efforts overall a big boost after handing some work off to Google and…
Your iPhone camera app will look a little different this fall. On Monday at its annual Worldwide Developers Conference in Cupertino, California, Apple showed off new features in its next version of its mobile operating system, iOS 27, and changes are afoot for the camera app.Notably, instead of just shifting between Photo and Video tabs, there’s now a new option: Siri AI.Before, to trigger Siri’s Visual Intelligence feature, you had to press the Camera Control button. When you pressed it, Siri could see what you’re pointing the iPhone camera at and deliver contextual assistance—like Google Lens—such as adding dates from…
These are exciting times for soccer fans. The World Cup kicks off this week. Arsenal recently snared 16-year-old prodigy Jeremy Monga. At its Worldwide Developers Conference, Apple introduced a host of tools designed to put parents back in control over how their kids are using the iPhone. This includes features that let parents decide who a child can talk to, what apps they can use, whether they can visit specific websites, and access to other tools to block inappropriate texts, manage screen time schedules, find age-appropriate app suggestions, and more. The redesigned version of its Screen Time controls builds on the technology Apple already offers, expanding its capabilities in new ways with more granular controls. This comes as the mental health…

Top of the Ticker: The ongoing saga revolving around 60 Minutes continues to take new twists as Scott Pelley opened up about the type of interference he allegedly experienced from CBS News editor in chief Bari Weiss while still employed at the Sunday news program. In a lengthy interview with The New York Times, Pelley said that earlier this year, when he was working on a report about the ICE protests in Minneapolis, he, through his former executive producer Tanya Simon, received some notes from Weiss to make the protesters look more violent and also describe Renee Good’s car as “driving…
Google on Monday announced an update to its NotebookLM research tool, which includes new features and the shift to Gemini 3.5 as the default model. The company is also adding Antigravity-powered software skills to help users with research and generating different kinds of outputs. This is similar to Google adding coding chops to its search products to make them more engaging for Q&A. Google said that with the latest update, you can start a chat about a project with the app, and it will help you build the knowledge base by suggesting different sources using its research skills and Google…

Every year I read through thousands of Startup Battlefield applications. And every year, I see the same pattern: The founders who belong on this stage are often the ones who almost didn’t apply. They think they’re too early. They think they need more traction. They think the program is for companies further along than they are. So here’s what we’re actually looking for and how to make sure your application reflects it. The deadline to be considered was May 27, but with the competition heating up and the applications continuing to come in, we’ve extended it to June 8. You…

FTX co-founder Sam Bankman-Fried has officially filed for a pardon from President Trump, according to the Justice Department’s Pardon Attorney Office website. Bankman-Fried is serving a 25-year prison sentence after being convicted on fraud and money laundering charges in 2024. The pardon application was first reported by Bloomberg News. An NBC News analysis from January found that more than half of the individual pardons granted were to people who committed…
